Sugarcoin

A brief history

The name Sugarcoin originates from a period of songwriter Andreas Nerström´s upbringing which he spent in Jamaica. The local boys had nicknames like “Coffestick”, “Chocolatestraw” etc. The younger, rounder version of Andreas was nicknamed Sugarcoin… why? well, you can draw your own conclusions.

Sugarcoin´s first proper studio album "A Moment 0f Weakness" was released in 2005. A second album " A Great Wall Of Antagonism " was released in 2008.

About the songs

"The songwriting is usually started on guitar. Often it´s based on a singular idea that is the core of the song, the “soul”, if you want. It can be a tiny detail or melodic figure, sometimes not more than a rythm or a sequence of tones. In more extreme cases just the sound of a schorching, dirty steel string. The goal is to keep and make a package of that small idea, that original feeling of simplicity and clarity - whatever it originates from - as it would have, in spite of its banality, the answer to some big and incomprehensible mystery. "
